Neck and Shoulder Pain
The human neck and shoulder are very prone to trauma and injury. The neck is very mobile, which means it is less stable than other areas of the body and more susceptible to injury. Neck and shoulder pain can be classified in many different ways. Some people experience only neck pain or only shoulder pain, while others experience pain in both areas.
What Causes Neck and Shoulder Pain?
Some of the more common causes of neck pain include trauma, poor posture, muscle strain, degenerative diseases, and in more serious and rare cases, tumors.
The shoulder is a ball and socket joint with a large range of movement. Such a mobile joint tends to be more susceptible to injury. Shoulder pain can stem from one or more of the following causes:
Strains from overexertion
Tendonitis from overuse
Shoulder joint instability
Collar or upper arm bone fractures
Pinched nerves (also called radiculopathy)
How chiropractic helps with neck and shoulder pain?
The treatment plan involves one or more manual chiropractic adjustments in which the doctor manipulates the joints, using a controlled, sudden force to improve range and quality of motion. The goals of chiropractic care include the restoration of function and prevention of injury in addition to back pain relief.
